This past Sunday we gathered at our church with family to dedicate our beautiful Grace Selah! It was truly one of the best days of my life.
A dedication is different than a baptism, in that when she is older, Grace can make the decision to be baptized for herself and her own faith journey (in the Bible it always says to repent and be baptized or believe, which would require some maturity and understanding). A dedication is presenting her to God for His blessing on her life, inviting God in to our lives as a family to help us raise Grace and give us the strength and wisdom to raise up our child. We pray God will use us to help Grace be blessed and raise her to be a blessing to others and love Jesus. We hope she brings light to this broken world (she already has so much to us in our family).
I was raised Orthodox so I was baptized as a baby (I now belong to a non-denominational church, when someone asks what “religion” I follow, I tell them I follow Jesus). Even though I was baptized as a baby, I decided to become born again at 25 with my husband Neal after truly understanding the gospel and wanting to commit our lives to Jesus. I pray for the day we can witness our beautiful Grace make that decision as well. We can’t parent alone, in fact we don’t try to, we invite God in daily to help us with His power and wisdom. In the Bible it says, He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; He gently leads those that have young. Isaiah 40:11
I am so grateful for God leading Neal and I, so we could lead our sweet Grace. Her name is a symbol of the grace He has given us. Truly thankful and grateful to experience this day and watch what God does in her life. I know He has beautiful plans for her and will always take care of her. I cannot control a lot as a parent, there is always something to worry about, but I can trust Jesus and I can trust Him to care for her all the days of her life.
